What is Animation?

Types of Animation

Cel animation, where the animators used to draw every frame by hand, is dead long back & we are practicing only digital animation now. There are 2 types of digital animation - 2d animation & 3d animation. 2d animation means creating movements using characters & backgrounds in a two-dimensional artistic space. 3d animation means the creation of moving pictures in a three-dimensional digital environment, which is done by sequencing consecutive images, or "frames", that simulate motion by each image showing the next in a steady progression of steps, filmed by a virtual "camera" and then output to video by a rendering engine.

Is it hard to learn Animation?

There are 2 types of animation – 2D & 3D. 2D animation is very simple to learn, provided you have basic sketching skills & the passion towards the field. You can master 2D animation within few months, whereas 3D animation will take more time & long practice hours to absorb the various principles. 3D animation is definitely not hard, but the learning curve is comparatively bigger, where you must be willing to put in a lot of efforts in practicing & continue learning through your mistakes until you become a confident 3D animator.

What are the prerequisites to learn Animation? I don't know anything about Animation? Can I still do the course?

Passion for the subject & basic computer knowledge are the only prerequisites before you enroll with us for Animation course. Good visual sense & decent sketching skills would be advantageous though. More importantly, you must love animation in every form – be it films, advertisements, games, TV series etc, as you cannot learn animation without being in love with it.

We let our outstanding students to work on a small module of those projects under the guidance of our production team, although we cannot give assurances about live projects to all students. But we usually create some good projects by ourselves & offer them to our animation students to work on.

Does your course also cover audio-video editing?

Yes. Its important for an animator to add sound to the animation clip as well as to edit the various footages to form a sequence. So, we also train our students in audio-video editing software as well. This will also help them during their interviews, as they will have a competitive edge over other students who may not know audio-video editing.

The course curriculum mentions 'Digital effects'. What is it?

Most of the Post-production studios, TV channels & Advertising companies expect the animators to have some basic knowledge about the visual fx software too, as it would be easy for them to conceive & execute a shot comprising of both animation & Vfx elements.
